I borrowed a film from the library “Jesus in India” and I was captivated by the images of Nicholas Roerich shown. That was yesterday, and today I keep going back to google his work. So beautiful. I had to learn more about him and came across this site. Now that I have read about what amazing people he and his wife were, I feel honoured to have become aware of their lives and work. Thank you for this opportunity and one day I hope to visit.

My favourite artist and philosopher,I have been fortunate to visit New York Museum twice, so also Kullu Museum.
Himalaya inspire me to paint.
This is an Italian musician who visited the museum in December 2011, probably on th 21st.
I was impressed by the magic of the place and its atmosphere (also being close to the Christmas day did play its part). I visited it for a friend of mine who gently asked me to do it for her, and who unfortunately has recently decided not to see me anymore….
I remember the nice conversation with the holder of the museum, which seemed to have something magical herself.
I was not brave enough to play “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Moussorgsky on the piano because I thought I would have produced “wrong vibrations”, but, well…I didn’t know at the time that mr. Roerich married Mussorgsky’s nephiew (or granddaughter) and designed Mussorgky’s opera in London…
I really hope to visit this magic place again.
Congratulations!
I look foward to visiting.Jenni Paul
I was in Manali,Kulu Valley, and came across this museum….pity it was shut but I`ve been a fan of Roerich ever since.
I love his work !
What a treasure the Roerich Museum is! A wonderfully immersive experience to be surrounded by his art and artifacts in such relaxed, inviting and densely adorned surroundings.
I look forward to visiting again very soon.
Hi there. I’m a huge fan of Roerich’s work and visit your wonderful collection on a regular basis (I live on the Upper West Side). I’m also a photographer and this past weekend took several snaps of the interiors. You can find them on my website:
http://riverflowsthroughit.tumblr.com/tagged/Roerich
I also have a more professional website:
http://www.riverflowsthroughit.com
The richness of Roerich’s work, the colours, vibrancy never ceases to amaze and inspire me (Hence I wanted to attempt to capture it on film). It also doesn’t hurt that I speak russian and can more or less relate to the background of that part of the world. I hope you enjoy.
Sincerely,
Olga
What a wonderful artist.
I’m trying to make a fabric wallhanging of one of his paintings.
Mesmeric, ethereal and wonderful. Great collection, a wonderful light midst the present darkness.
Love the paintings of the collection, beautiful.

Since I first came to know Nicholas Roerich in India while on my pilgimage to the Buddhist holy sites in 1998, I fell in love with his art & spirit. I visited his old residence hut in Manali and walked up to Benares Hindu Univ. to see his paintings. How wonderful for me to connect this site through Google ! Thanks for this precious preservation & worthy labors.
In future I will visit NR museum in NY.
In Peace, in Love
The heart igniting art and writings of Nicholas and the Agni Yoga series of Helena Roerich have nourished my Spirit since 1969.In 1972 I met Dr. Svetoslav Roerich and his wife, Devika Rani. This developed into a deep friendship which continued up until our last visit, 2 weeks before Svetoslav passed away. Before I met Svetoslav I’d had profound inner experiences with NK and later with Helena Roerich. I consider them my Spiritual parents, and Svetoslav as my long time mentor.I’m deeply grateful that we can connect with their radiant spirits here. Thank you and my deepest love and blessings. PS Ruth Drayer is also a long time friend. Ashtar-Athena Sheran whom the Roerich’s knew as Denise Eversole and later as Saivahni.
For many years I would view the art of Nicholas Roerich not understanding the meaning, but loving the vibrant colors…it was hypnotic. Eventually the incredible writings were discovered…now I understand.
Thank you for taking care, preserving both, and making them available to all.
Peace Profound

Last year I have been very interested about beautiful amazing paintings of Ladakh landscapes of an unknown (to me !) painter. The location was also very strange: Mysore Palace in Karnataka (India).
Now I know who is the painter Nicholas Roerich! and his story and I hope that one day I will visit the Museum in NY.
Also I was wondering if there is a book sized album(something like A4 format or smaller) of all of Nicholas Roerich’s paintings.I think its a great idea of making one if there isn’t one yet.
I am very happy to find so much painting of Nicholas Roerich, the site is just speechless
Excellent site to share common interest in the esoteric work of the Roerichs.
I am “Architecte-Restaurateur”, Curator, from ICCROM, 1976 Architectural Course for Conservation. Preparing my Personal Web Site awaiting the Museum Director Approval, on publishing some paints as guidelines to my subjects. Visiting the Museum, with my wife, in September 15th, 2009. Nice Exhibition in quit Area of New York. Spiritual Message from India, I haven’t see the Lapis Lazuli!.
Truly wonderful and inspirational.
An anecdote:
I visited the museum in 2002 or 2003, when I lived in Brooklyn; my friend Yana brought me there, because she was of Russian descent, and had heard of Roerich.
I have long since left New York … and I have lost track of my dear, dear Yana … but this museum, and the beautiful, bright, transcendental art of Roerich, will always remind me of her.
Just as the thought of her will always be inextricably linked with a coinciding thought: of the work of Nicholas Roerich.
Thank you.
Enjoyed the discovery of Nicholas Roerich Art
Thank you for posting the correspondence. Do you plan to publish it as a book or a series of books? Please let me know on the message board or through my e-mail. Thank you very much. Stanislav Levin, Los Angeles, CA, USA.
Please Keep Roerich concert s and poetry readings in Bangalore , India
In Russia, the correct spelling is Svyatoslav Roerich, not Svetoslav.
Otherwise, nice, if somewhat small, photos of the Roeurichs’ canvases.
I know there are no accidents and it is interesting that I came upon this website through wikipedia while simply looking for symbols representing peace for the worldwide Become Peace ™ 2009 event on 09-09-09 via social media sites all over the world. Please follow us on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/BecomePeace2009 because we are wanting 1 million people tweeting, texting, talking and blogging about peace and creating random acts of kindness on this day. We will place a link for the Nicholas Roerich museum on our website (http://www.podchicks.net) so that others may know of the work he has done to promote peace through culture. Namaste.
Мира и счастья вам!
I have discovered who Nicholas Roerich was via my former yoga teacher. Since then I have been visiting this site and others to learn more about Roerich and his philosophy. Thanks for having this site available and so nicely done.
My compliments to the museum that i still don’t know.
Roerich was a great, great man and artist.
Beatiful works of art and wonderful example of man and human being.
It’ a honor to know about him and his life.

I have been an admirer of Nicholas Roerich since the time the museum was located on Riverside Drive. I understand that a wonderful collection of prints of his paintings called “Atlas Nicholas Roerich” has recently been published. Can you tell me where to purchase a copy and the price?
Complimenti, a great website about a great person!
Unfortunately Nikolaj Roerich in Italy is almost unknown.
Why don’t You organize an exhibition in Rome or in Milan?
Great website! If he were still alive he would be very pleased with. I first learned about him throught the Rosicrucian Digest magazine and have been learning more about this great individual ever since.
A terrific website: very extensive, and edifying.
Nicholas Roerich – a fascinating man.
My grandmother, artist Aimee Seyfort, exhibited at the Roerich Museum back in the early 1930′s.
Very inspirational. Thank you.
The Nicholas Roerich Museum in Naggar, Himachal Pradesh, India, is one of my favorite visits in India. Roerich’s brilliance as a painter, writer and traveler inspires and uplifts me. His paintings of the Himalayas and his writings about his journeys throughout India, Pakistan, Mongolia, has helped expand my own vision. I’m so happy that works of this deeply spiritual, creative artist are available to the public in New York City. This web site is a virtual place of refuge for me. Thank you.
Happy New Year!
Wish you success in every benign undertakings!
Sending you
Great Cosmic

On New Year’s Eve I came upon your site and am so grateful for your work and your postings online across cyber and real space. What a treasure. One day I hope to visit your museum.
Keeping this vast and inspiring work open to all is a noble venture.
Happy New Year and many more to some.
This website and the work of the museum ensure Roerich’s inspiring and uplifting legacy will continue touching lives all over the world, as it has mine. He was such a passionate, mystical, musical and spiritual tour de force! I sincerely thank you all for faithfully endeavoring to keep his vast work so vibrantly accessible. Cheers!

Roerich discloses to us internal horizons and revealed in its painting the bridge that
takes the humanity to the Sacred one. Gratitude for the indicated way and
direction is observed in his piece.
I recently took a painting class and the instuctor invited the class to this museum to hear a lecture about artists from St. Petersburg. I was overwhelmed with an incredible feeling of identity with this artist, with the paintings, and with the work which both he and his wife Helena dedicated their lives to. I seem to feel it within me , as though it has become a part of me. I began to wear the symbol of peace and so many people ask me about it, what does it mean, so I share what I have so recently discovered, and I see eyes light up. I also discovered, that many many years ago, in another country, my mother was very familiar with Roerich, and she had a friend who owned a small painting of Roerich’s of Christ. And she said she felt the face and image of the Christ in that painting. Through his work and this museum I believe that I am discoving myself, my being. I am so very grateful that it is here. Thank you.
My family and I lived in India for two years in 1970-72. We visited the Kulu Valley and Manali many times. We met Svetoslav Roerich and his wife the lovely Devika Rani and became friends. We visited their home in Manali and also in Bangalore where we were lucky enough to view an evening of Roerich paintings. It was an unforgettable experience. I corresponded with Devika Rani until her death. Nicholas’paintings of the Himalayas are magnificent. His great spirituality comes through in them.
These paintings have a texture that i have long since left in my childhood. They help me train my eye so that it may once more be uncloaked and gaze on the voluptuous reality we are immersed. I am a candle lit by Roerich’s light.
The mystical teachings of Helena and Nicholas Roerichs have deeply influenced me in the writings of Secret Societies Exposed. The artistic collection of art and the elaborate archive of ancient documents in the Museum are highly admirable, thanks to Daniel Entin.

Philip,
It will be good to see you here at the museum, after so many years. Your time here is remembered with gratitude.

I was a guest curator for six months at the Roerich Museum in 1991 (International Year of Tibet). As a professional artist, Roerich’s philosophy and travels have influenced my own work. I look forward to visiting again in October.
I have on my left hand a tattoo, not just any tattoo, it is the symbol of the Roerich Pact.
I agree with the pact and it’s symbol, the three smaller circles within the Larger circle.
Hi,
i have been interested in the work of Roerich since the 80′s after reading ‘Shambhala, oasis of light’
I live in Bulgaria and noticed in our nearest gallery in, Haskovo city a poster with a picture of Roerich,so I was wondering if any of you guys know anything about this.
My command of Bulgarian is awful at the moment so I was too shy to go in and ask.
Love the site keep up the good work.
‘May your love of the light and your understanding of the dark never fade’
I found Roerich`s name when reading The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath by Lovecraft. If you admire Roerich, well, Lovecraft also did. Roerich mixed Music and Painting, Lovecraft adds Literature.
On a recent visit I was able to purchase “new” postcards which had recently arrived from the printer. Always inspiring! Thank you Dan and staff for your ongoing labors on behalf of all of us who are devoted to the Teachings and Art of the Roerichs.
Some five months ago I came to know a hummingbird whose name is not necessary to be uttered; her presence in the space-time continuum beside me is for the time being gracefully enough. She is the Grace and my Guide to the Light. It were she who told me for the first time the name Nicholas Roerich. I am gladly happy that she pronounced the name. And today I am 20. And I am trying to understand Roerichs. Thank you Grace.
AS always this web site inspires me. I, many times have recommended it to others, and also to many young people who are looking for inspiration and hope in a world in trouble. It is my prayer that many beautiful young ones will touch this message of Nicholas Roerich and find strength in themselves to step forward and be the best they can be, and to be the heroes of the future we all so need.
I visited New York city last year, and the only thing I regret is having not visited the Nicholas Roerich Museum, God willing, I will be there, thanks for making it available, Gracias
I’m not really into painting but I enjoyed Nikolay Roerich’s art very much. Thank you very much for providing the ability to feast our eyes on his paintings!
P.S. There’s a minor thing I came across that calls for correction. The painting that in English translation is called “Beneficial Herbs (Vasilisa the Beautiful)” in Russian is called “Beneficial Herbs (Vasilisa the Wise)”. As a Russian I know that in Russian folklore Vasilisa is assosiated with wisdom so I suppose the English translation is incorrect.
Very rare that i visit this page and i was attracted to response to one poem of Nicholas Roerich on Fairy Tale.
That fairy tale are legend and have become life and we live again to as we go along to live it again we change it, again and again and as we touch the earth if not the earthly life, today will be part of the past.
Just like in life Roerich said that sacred signs are there and re-appeared and when it is greatly needed not one can see it.
Perhaps because we are not ready to see it. Only for this sacred things to re-create life and because we are too busy with our legends, we may not be able to see for what is sacred and we continue our own fairy tale and wonder construct a new legend?

Dear Daniel,
Thank you so much for your tireless work on sharing the incredible life, teaching and art of the Roerich’s with all of us. NK would be and I am sure is incredibly proud of you and your dedication to the Nicholas Roerich Museum. I hope to come back and see you and his spiritually uplifting work soon.
Sincerely, Dan
PS: Thanks for making the museum wheelchair acceessible too! You may remember me I am a student of Martin B. Blessings from New Mexico.
Dear Friends,
Please be sure to look at the newest section of our site — our archive of correspondence. There are already about a thousand letters there, and one day, God willing, there will be about ten thousand, and epehemera, newspaper clippings, exhibition programs, institutional materials, and lots more. One day, our entire archive will be on line, and researchers, wherever they are in the world, will have instant access to all that is ours.
Explore it, dig around and learn much about the Roerichs and their colleagues, about the early history of the Roerich “movement.”
And please comment on what you see — praise, criticize, make suggestions.
Daniel Entin
Thank you for the wonderful comments! You are welcome here. I guarantee you’ll have a great experience. Bring your oxygen…

Okay, let me say from the beginning that I never heard of Nicolas Roeich until I saw a piece about Henry Walace and, since I had nothing else to do, I decided to look him up. Also, I am not a big fan of paintings, they are alright but that is about it. Then I saw Roeich’s paintings on your website and WOW!
I won’t go into his style or how he stacks up against other painters of his era because I don’t know and don’t care. What I will say is that his work touched me personally and in a way I never thought possible. What a remarkable mind he had to convey something that so personal and yet so universal. I can’t put into words how those works made me feel but I like it and can’t wait to visit the museum to see the in person.
Nicolas Roeich died in 1947 but the truth is that such a unique individual will never die.
Each year at Theosophy House Sydney a selection of work by Nicholas Roerich is presented by Michael Breen. Accompanied to music, the blending of shape, colour and symbol serve as catalyst for enriching the mystery of life. Today at a small gathering I met Michael who suggested viewing this site so with appreciation to Michael I am delighted to begin viewing and further enriching the journey.
Thanks for this beautiful site, the amazing temperas by Nicholas Roerich, with a strange and delicate technique, profound in love, in peace, and spirituality.
Great site. As a long time student of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC I greatly appreciated the mystical insights into all the paintings.

I love it and want more.
Dear Friend,
We here have discussed it, and agree wholeheartedly with you. You are right. Some years ago, we experimented with 360 degree panoramas, but they did not work well, and we abandoned that project. Now, we will make and show more normal photographs of the exhibit rooms of the museum. Thank you for reminding us!

Hello dear colleague!
Everlasting Gratitude from Russia to you for your work in America!
Everyone work on general welfare!
It would be desirable to find more information about exposition (or exhibition) in your Museum!
Please, if it probably, show a photo presentation on your website!
It can be like virtual excursion which very much will help people to know about your museum more!
U know… cuz not everyone can fly in New York.
We thank you kindly.

Dear Wendy,
It’s interesting that you saw those books in the film. It’s true that someone who was a close friend and helper to Presley introduced him to Roerich and his ideas, and, just as important, to the spiritual teaching called Agni Yoga, which was brought here by the Roerichs. The book called Leaves of Morya’s Garden is one of the books of Agni Yoga. If you go to the Agni Yoga web site, http://www.agniyoga.org, you can find there all the books of Agni Yoga, on line, complete, free to read or to download and print out. If you have any difficulties with this, write to me at director@roerich.org.

I recently saw a special on Elvis Presley. It was his 30th year anniversary special since his death on Aug. 16, l977. I noticed a stack of books that inspired Elvis on the video tape. As I played it in slow motion I was able to read the titles of his books. Several of them were by Nicholas Roerich. I looked up the web site and have enjoyed reading and learning all about him. Elvis had loved another book called “Leaves of Morya’s Garden”. I was so excited to come across this fantastic writer and painter. He has so inspired me. I am very thankful to have discovered this web site. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart. And God Bless.

Hello friends! Really nice place here. I found a lot of interesting stuff all around.
I look forward confidently to the day when all who work for a living will be one with no thought to their separateness as Negroes, Jews, Italians or any other distinctions. This will be the day when we bring into full realization the American dream — a dream yet unfulfilled. A dream of equality of opportunity, of privilege and property widely distributed; a dream of a land where men will not take necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few; a dream of a land where men will not argue that the color of a man’s skin determines the content of his character; a dream of a nation where all our gifts and resources are held not for ourselves alone, but as instruments of service for the rest of humanity; the dream of a country where every man will respect the dignity and worth of the human personality.
Love the site – nice to find such writings / expressions / artistic endeavours getting the appreciation they deserve…….have passed the link on to many a friend of like mind!!!
It was a real pleasure to finally make it to your museum last week. My only regret is having so little time to spend before having to rush off to catch a flight back to the U.K. The paintings are stunning ‘in the flesh’ and the ambience of the house is perfect for their display. I hope to return in the not too distant future……….
I have just finished reading “A Search for the Historical Jesus” by Dr Fida Hussnain. I was intrigued by the cover and found that it was an original painting by Roerich who features in the book. That led to your website – I have spent an eternity gazing at the picture “Remember” with tears pouring down my cheeks. What a gift – to be able to speak to the soul through the medium of paint. Thankyou thankyou thankyou.
I am a high school English teacher. I teach remediation classes, preparing students for state testing. I gave them an assignment I found on EdHelper.com about a girl and her mother visiting the Roerich Museum in New York City. In the story, the museum was described beautifully and students were interested in what some of the colors described look like. I found your page and am happy to be able to direct my students to it so that they can view the art themselves. I never knew about Mr. Roerich’s art until now, and am a new admirer of his work. I will use this lesson in the future. I hope to visit New York this summer and will make the museum one of my priority stops. Thanks for bringing a lesson to life. Some of my students have never left the state, the city, or even their neighborhoods. If not for the wonderful world of information and communication, they would not experience such wonders.
I’m happy for finding this site. I’m looking for a painting “the Massenger” by Nicholas Roerich, that I saw in the book “HPB biography” by Silvia Cranston. This painting dated from 1931 representing H.P.Blavatsky being received by Humanity. The book says that this painting belongs to the Adyar Theosophical Society, Chennai, India. But I didn’t find it in the Rerich museum’s site. I’d like to receive a colored image of it. Do you have any? Another thing is the Peace Flag and Pact, which is a gemstone for the art. I’m an artist and until now I hadn’t realised such a great message for
Hello!!! I am with all my heart glad that have found your site! At you very good photos of family of Roerichs. It is a pity that there is no Svjatoslava Roerich’s painting. Thanks you for the done huge and assiduous work!
I am the proud owner of a painting by Nicholas Roerich for which my late father paid a young RIAF officer’s full month’s salary, which was a princely sum of Rs. 600/- (today less than $10!) in the late 30′s. From my father I inherited, along with the painting his and NR’s love of art, spritualism and love of peace through culture and art. I would like to stay in touch with NR’s work and dreams. I once tried to meet Svetoslav and his wife when I was staying at my Godfather’s farm outside Bangalore, and close to the Roerich estate, but was unable to because he and his wife prefered to remain very private in their latter years. However, that did not stop me from wanting to know more about the Roerich works and admiring the principles he (NR) set out during his lifetime. Can I find any biographies about him in English?
Thank you for keeping the Roerich legacy alive and at hand! I have never seen these works in person but even the virtual experience fills the spirit with HOPE! Where I live, out here in the Caribbean, he is never mentioned so if it weren’t for your efforts, this lifestream wouldn’t have been touched by Roerich’s incandescent spirit, as someone in your guestbook so aptly described this empowering art. I will surely forward your address to many. Thank you one more.
